Supahcute puts on some really fantastic art shows – and this latest is no exception. Celebrating the wonderfully old-school theme of “kaiju”, the supahcute Kaiju Show opens this Saturday, January 18th at Leanna Lin’s Wonderland. Kaiju is a Japanese term that literally translates to “strange creature”. Godzilla would be the prime example and probably the most well-known here in the states. My piece (shown above) is titled “Kawaiiju” and features some iconic Japanese characters re-imagined as kaiju. This is a limited edition 1/1 giclee print and comes framed and signed.
Supahcute has once again rounded up an impressive list of artists for this show including – Jared Andrew Schorr, Vanessa Ramirez, 100% Soft, Fat Rabbit Farm, Camilo Bejarano, and Christopher Lee among others.
The opening reception for the show will take place from 6-10 PM on January 18th. You can RSVP to the even on the show’s Facebook page. There will be great art, treats and goodie bags – plus there will be some really cool merchandise created just for this show and available for purchase. Supply is limited so get there early if you want to get your hands on these items.
I had a busy couple of days in Southern California last week. Got a jump start on the weekend by spending all day Friday in Disneyland. Had a great time showing my friends around the parks. They came all the way from Minnesota! Nothing is more fun than watching kids experience Disneyland for the first time. Everything is new again.
On Saturday, I had a signing event at WonderGround Gallery. Enjoyed a quick lunch with artists Jared Andrew Schorr, J. Scott Campbell and Jasmine Becket-Griffith immediately following their very busy event. Then it was back to the gallery to meet some fantastic guests and sign my work for them. Had a great turn-out. Sold out the entire stock of the Happy Haunts deluxe prints. More will be available soon. Check the gallery for availability.
It’s always such a pleasure to get to talk to guests of the gallery. They have such nice things to say and it’s a great source of inspiration for me. These signings are one of the best parts of working with WonderGround. As always, the cast members made it a smooth and enjoyable experience. Theirs is not an easy job and I am so grateful for their efforts to make these appearances run like clock work. My thanks to everyone involved!
Gallery Nucleus – The Physics of Friendship: A Tribute To The Big Bang Theory
After WonderGround, I went directly to Gallery Nucleus for the opening of The Physics of Friendship: A Tribute To The Big Bang Theory. I have two pieces in the show, which runs through November 10th. Arrived a little early to do some fun press pictures, a few interviews and (of course) a little shopping. This was the first Gallery Nucleus show I attended and it was impressive. In addition to all the great art, they featured some fun props from the show and a few great activities – including a make-your-own Penny Blossom! I had a great time and it’s always fun to meet the other artists in the exhibit. My thanks to Wade Buchanan for a great evening. It was a thrill to be a part of a Gallery Nucleus show! Visit the Gallery Nucleus website for information on purchasing prints from the show.
The Supah Mash-Up Art Party made its debut this past weekend. Here’s a shot of all the completed pieces for the show. I collaborated with Jared Andrew Schorr on three of the images shown above. These are all one-of-a-kind and come framed. Prints of the images are not available.
The Princess Mononoke image (top left) has sold. The rest of the pieces are still available. The two Ponyo images are sold as a set. Visit the links below for details on availability and purchasing.
Hana of supahcute.com is back with another art show! Teaming up once again with Leanna Lin’s Wonderland, this new show is all about collaborations. I am thrilled to be participating and even more excited to be partnering up with the super-talented Jared Andrew Schorr. I first met Jared at the opening of WonderGround Gallery last June. I’ve admired his work for some time and it’s a thrill to be collaborating with him on this show. We decided to do a tribute to the films of Studio Ghibli. We’re both big fans of these characters and stories so this show was great excuse to create some really fun pieces. We’ll both have individual pieces in the show along with the pieces we worked on together. All pieces will be for sale at the show. If you sign up with Leanna Lin’s website, you will have access to early previews and sales of all the pieces in this very cool show. Head on over to the site to see who else is participating. And if you’re close by, make sure to show up for opening night on May 11th from 6-10 PM.
Check out the thumbnails below for a little preview of our pieces. For my individual piece, I did a tribute to Princess Mononoke and Jared did a terrific Spirited Away piece. We collaborated on a set of Ponyo pieces and a great My Neighbor Totoro set-up. Please visit the websites for supahcute.com and Leanna Lin’s Wonderland for more information on the show and purchasing. The show will run from May 11 – July14th 2013.
