Last year, I was asked to illustrate this fantastic set of books for Pixar’s upcoming summer release Inside Out (June 19). The set features five little books – one for each emotion: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear. It will be released on May 5th and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

This was a dream project to work on and I am so thrilled with the results.  The back of the box has a die-cut window so you can feature the emotion you are currently experiencing. Such a fun project and I got to work with some incredible people.

Hope you will pick up a copy!

Best Weekend Ever

Collage_BlogTo say this was an exciting weekend is an understatement of epic proportions. There was so much going on and I loved every minute of it.

On Friday, I was at Disney’s WonderGround Gallery to launch two new Star Wars themed pieces. I had a signing that evening and was lucky enough to share the event with Joey Chou. I am a big fan of Joey’s work. If you aren’t familiar with his art, check him out. You’ve probably seen his work at some point. His “It’s A Small World” book is not to be missed. My sincere thanks to everyone who came out to the event that evening. Thank you for waiting in line and taking time out of your busy lives to come say hello. Your support and enthusiasm for my work is a constant inspiration. As always, a special thanks to everyone at WonderGround Gallery. You make every event a special one and I appreciate all the things you do. You treat us artists like rock stars and I can’t thank you enough for your efforts. The birthday wishes were a wonderful surprise – especially the glittery birthday button! If you couldn’t make it to the gallery this weekend, you can always order the art and merchandise by phone through Disney at 877-560-6477.

Saturday was Nerd-Vana as I spent the entire day at Star Wars Celebration. Big crowds and long lines were to be expected, but it was still a great time. The event kicked off with the debut of the second trailer for The Force Awakens and that really seemed to set the mood for the weekend. There was a giddy buzz about the place. There’s something great about a convention where everyone is joined by a shared love of Star Wars and its many worlds and incarnations. It’s not as vast as Comic Con (thankfully) and that definitely works in its favor. While I was there, I had the opportunity to finally meet Christopher Lee (The Beast Is Back) who had a wealth of merchandise at the Star Wars Celebration Store. I’ve been a fan of this guy for a while now and it was nice to talk to him in person. I thoroughly enjoyed my first Star Wars Celebration experience and I have the best photo ever as a memento. Thanks to everyone who found me to claim their buttons – and apologies to those who didn’t. It was a little crazy and I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet up with more of you. Even I couldn’t get to Jeff Delgado to claim one of his awesome prints!

On Sunday I had the chance to meet former Disney animator Will Finn. What a treat. He’s been an animation hero of mine since Beauty and The Beast was released in 1991. He served as supervising animator on Cogsworth – one of my favorite characters from that film. WIll has worked on so many Disney classics as well as those from other studios including Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame to name a few. For Don Bluth he worked on The Secret of NIMH, Dragon Slayer and Space Ace. The list goes on and on. It was such a pleasure to talk to him about his amazing career and hear little stories of what it was like to work in the business during this exciting time. Will and so many of his contemporaries are my generation’s “Nine Old Men” (though there are certainly more than nine). And in this 3D/digital/CG world we live in, we can’t forget the influence of these guys and their incredible work that inspired so many of us to go into the creative arts field. They’re all still working in the industry but I crave to hear more from these artists and see their contemporary work. Who wouldn’t want to see and hear more from Will, Glen Keane, Mark Henn, James Baxter and Andreas Dejas to name just a few. These guys are animation superstars and I would love to see them at D23 Expo and other Disney events – wouldn’t you? I’d wait in line for an autograph!

It was a fantastic weekend. The stars all seemed to align for my birthday weekend and I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate.
